We try to find Carers with more maturity, already studying or qualified in a caregiving or health related field. In all cases, we offer guidelines as to pay and conditions so please be sure that the person you recruit has the right qualifications for your needs, understands what is required of them, and is happy with the agreement. In most cases you will be recruiting people from a country other than your own. Its important that they have time to settle in and find their feet. This may take up to 6 weeks. They may want to attend English classes, and you will be expected to allow time off for this.

In all cases we recommend that you do out a written timetable of what is required from them. Explain what jobs you need done and when. Try to be flexible as they may not be familiar with your work practices in the home. Where they are taking on the care of another person, it will take time for both parties to get to know and to trust one another, regardless of age or circumstances.

When negotiating pay and conditions it might be useful to offer help with the cost of a flight – though we don’t recommend that you pay in advance. In many cases, where a carer stays for a year, the family paying for a return flight makes a welcome bonus. You will be responsible for registering your helper for Income Tax and Insurance so please contact your local Tax Office.
